How sprint capacity is calculated

For each person: (working days in the sprint minus days off) x focus hours per day x the share of their time on this team. The team's capacity is the sum.

Focus hours are the hours left for sprint work after meetings, reviews, support and breaks. Most teams land between 5 and 6 hours of an 8 hour day.

Using capacity in sprint planning

Capacity is a ceiling, not a target. Compare it with last sprint: if the team finished 30 points with 45 person-days and has 36 person-days now, a commitment near 24 points is realistic.

Enter last sprint's points and person-days to get that suggestion worked out for you.

Questions

What is sprint capacity?
The amount of working time a team has available in a sprint, after removing holidays, leave, part-time allocation and time lost to meetings.
How many focus hours per day should I use?
Start with 6 for an 8 hour day. Lower it if your team carries a lot of support work or meetings.
Is my data saved?
It stays in your browser so the numbers are still there next sprint. Nothing is sent to our servers.
